About USITT Chesapeake Section
So what is USITT? USITT stands for the United States
Institute for Theatre Technology. It was founded in 1960 as an organization of
theatre professionals, educators, and students dedicated to creating and
disseminating standards within the entertainment industry, and providing
education and training through Professional Development Workshops, symposia,
and sessions at an Annual Conference presented each September.
While the primary focus of the national organization is
developing standards and certifications,
each regional chapter of USITT is
charged with providing local and ongoing education, advocacy, & support of
the best working practices, standards, & aesthetics of theatrical
technology for their specific region. The Chesapeake section, and each regional
section, functions as a centralized resource for its constituency and the
industry at large.
The Chesapeake section is comprised of a volunteer based
leadership composed of local members with backgrounds in all aspects of theatre
design and technology. The Chesapeake Section is governed through an
executive structure composed of volunteer members who are elected to office on
a rotating basis, following the procedures established in the By-laws.
