Frequently Asked Questions Regarding USITT

Membership

Does my membership in USITT National carry over to the Chesapeake Section?

No.  Membership in one is exclusive of the other.

Why should I join the Section if I’m already a member of National?

You will have access to the many member benefits of the Chesapeake Section website (see below).  In addition, the more local active members we have allows us to offer a wider range of programs.

Events

Do I have to be a member to attend Events?

In general, yes. This is true for our Annual Expo, and other workshops brought to you by the section. Occasionally we co-sponsor events with other organizations and membership is not necessary, but often provides you with a discount on registration fees.  

Workshops/Programming

Can I present a workshop at your annual Expo?

Yes, please! We love to spotlight local talent and have fresh ideas for our annual expo. Contact the 2nd Vice-Chair about your ideas and we’ll make it happen.

How do you decide what types of programs to offer throughout the year and why do there seem to be so few?

We are run completely through the efforts of volunteers.  If you would like to help plan a program or event your help is greatly encouraged.

I would like to host a workshop at my space, can you help me?

Yes, we can help find professionals to present a workshop in your space. We simply ask that we are able to open the event to our membership as a whole.  Please contact a member of the Executive Committee for details and costs.

How do you choose the sites for the annual Expo?

We try and move it around the section so that members in no one area always have to travel far.  In addition we need to find venues which can handle classes, vendor space as well as parking for a couple hundred people.

What does the members section of the website offer?

We currently seek to offer:
  • An area to download presentations – let people see your work
  • Job Listings – Find the perfect one
  • Membership directory – get your name and skills out to prospective employers
  • A voting and Survey section – let your voice be heard
  • Newsletter Library – check out past issues of our newsletter, Sightlines
When will the website be fully functional?

We are in the process of raising the required capital.  The site is being completed in stages based on available funding.  If you have or are a rich uncle who’d like to help us out then please by all means get in touch with a member of the board.
